Don’t worry, God’s got a backup plan.

Standard

Sometimes life can get scary! We take a wrong turn, make the wrong decision, or be on the receiving end of someone else’s – it happens (a lot!)

No need to worry, God’s got it. Our immense, inestimable, heavenly father always has a backup plan. It’s promised in Romans 8:28 “all things work together for good to those that love God and are called acording to His purpose.” It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t go for that ball, but if we miss it, God will grab it and lob it in the right direction. If we took a wrong turn He’ll bend that detour back to the straight and narrow while we become wiser drivers along the road. If we fall, He’ll pick us up, dust us off, and set us, more humble, on our way.

I once got really down and discouraged at my frequent failures. Sitting gloomily pondering my stupidity, I noticed my friend’s two-year-old enter the room. Coming straight up to me (and with appropriate hand motions) he said, “God’s way up – down!” Talk about “out of the mouths of babes and sucklings!” I got the point and never forgot. It’s become a habit over the years, when I blow it, or something goes wrong, to try to guess what God is going to do to fix it – He’s full of surprises! Like the “Murder in Paradise” ( a fun who done it series) I seldom guess, unless He gives a lot of clues! Lol!

I must confess to still being a worrywart at times, but it’s life’s number one way to de stress for me to remember that, though I haven’t a clue how a situation could possibly be remedied, God always has a backup plan!

“This is Eternal Life?”

Standard

The first thought when hearing “eternal life” tends to be “life after death”, but either believers are right and all live eternally or atheists are correct and there is nothing after death (in which case also nothing to worry about since you will no longer be aware).

Examined logically “eternal life” (as expressed in Biblical texts etc.) denotes something more than survival because it is partaken by some and not others. It seems to be speaking rather of quality of life – living rather than existing. As Braveheart so aptly states, “All men die, but not all men truly live!” There’s a difference between eternal life and eternal survival. Eternal survival in an environment in which you felt trapped, fearful, or alone would be the worst kind of hell!

So what is meant by “eternal life”? John clarifies “This is eternal life, that they may know … the only true God, and Jesus Christ…” We are told Jesus came that we might “have life and have it more abundantly” an enriched life, beginning not at death but the moment we come to truly know him in a personal and intimate way, a life enriched by the power and joy of his spirit, possessed not at death but right now in our present life and that to come.

Facing something bigger than you?

“The very words of God are tingling with supernatural power to be released by the touch of your faith!”

Take the fight up to a higher level. Things impossible on the physical plane become possible on the spiritual one.

“The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty to the pulling down of strongholds (disease, corruption, fear, hate, greed,) casting down imaginations (doubts, fears, negativity, impossibilities, things we think that impede us) and every high thing that exults itself against the knowledge of God. Bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”

We’ve been endowed with the most powerful weapons on earth, but they must be grasped and used on the spiritual plain, we access that through the absorption of God’s Word.

dreams med

Do we all dream alike? I’m often amazed at dream concepts related or portrayed in paintings and movies so vastly different to my own. I wonder at the diverse worlds we enter when sleeping.
Personally my dreams generally come in two varieties, what I term “frustration dreams” (often after a stressful day) where I’m trying to find something (a place, person, or item of clothing – even the bathroom!) but just can’t find it.

The other more usual dreams are practical or inspirational. In these dreams I discover solutions to problems, new creative ideas and of course my best stories! I often take it for granted that if I “sleep on it” the answer will probably be right there in my head when I wake up. I’ve discovered though many folks find this unusual. Do my fellow writers also glean words and stories in that wonderful stage between sleep and…

spiritual warfare

Reaching out with his mind he pinpointed the position of the enemy forces, images patterning his consciousness. They were strong but he was stronger! It must be an all out attack, no half measures. Captives lay shrinking in the darkness shackled by an unseen force of that gnawed at their minds, bombarding them with thoughts and images that warped their sanity. He must liberate them before it was too late.
Calling in reserves he launched an all out attack. Resolutely clutching his weapon tight in his fist he marshaled his army sending gleaming emissaries wheeling forth, light blasting from their outstretched arms. The air whistled with missiles and the clash of weapons as light wrestled darkness. It was over in a matter of minutes.
The heavy bombardment concluded his eyes raked the debris for the prisoners. There they lay quivering but whole, the shackles snapped and useless. The enemy’s legions…

One Day.

Standard

birds 4
Thousands of birds curve and soar in the sky above, like a rush of sound and colour they wheel to and fro interweaving their songs. The sky, a brilliant, deep blue fades into soft purples at the horizon as flocks weave in and out in giant loops of song. Their tiny hearts burst forth from within, with echoes of joy and praise, so heavenly I can only stand and watch.
The birds fly forth celebrating peace on earth at last, lending their praises to the creation bursting forth in splendor below, new buds, new beginnings.
Many come forth to watch their flight. Most not knowing what it means. It is creation’s celebration, the coming of the true millennium – “and the evening and the morning were the first day”.

The seal is broke, the scroll unveiled, of things that form the future:..

hour glass

The sand glass turned, the hour begun when mortal minds of men
Shall run a pace about this earth and dipped in blood the pen.
The man unveiled, an empire grim, lies waiting in the shadow,
The time is set, the race begins, that time itself unravels.
So set your course unto the wind that blows about this region.
It is the wake, the trumpet call that heralds in the season.
Look afar upon the wind for you may see it stirring
Beyond earth’s veil the tempest’s din about shall soon be whirling.

trumpets
Slowly, slowly time slips by, as water that is dripping.
One day over, next begun, life’s pages by are flipping.
Each day a note in this vast song, the melody that’s playing,
Each synchronized within the whole, the message it is saying
Come back, come back, within My arms, for time shall soon be ending
Life’s trials and tests, the combat sweet of others you’re defending.
Last note is played, the chorus ends, the silence is descending
Last drop is cast to net below, My presence now is pending

jesus return

So suck each drop of life’s sweet dew and hear the sound a ringing
Angels from the hosts on high the end of all are bringing.
What sweet refrain upon their lips, what power in each gesture,
Each sigh, each joy, each mumbled prayer, the sins no longer pester.

So Who is Satan Anyhow?

Standard

satan

Whether you consider him mythical, symbolic or an actual entity, with Halloween approaching in all its lurid costumes it’s surprising how few folks know his origins.
The story is told in the Bible that Satan was once God’s top man, (or angel) the light bearer, powerful and beautiful beyond imagination. His body embellished with music he led the praise of God. So what happened? Basically it seems it wasn’t enough for Satan being the supreme angel. In his pride he wanted to be God, to be worshiped, therefore he rebelled persuading a third of the angels to join him.
He’s described as “the Prince of the Air” and “the father of lies.” The most common caricature of Satan is a little guy with horns and a tail but I would probably depict him as a handsome, impeccably dressed, intellectual, smooth tongued and alluring, only the eyes giving him away as evil. Genesis has him pictured as a snake persuading Eve with subtle words to doubt God(His Bible knowledge is reputed to be better than most Christians and he tries to use it against them as he did Jesus.)
Halloween costumes are often sexy, but again there in a subtle lie here. Sex was God’s creation instigated before “the fall of man”, it’s sexual perversion that is Satan’s domain. He cannot create only pervert. He’s also referred to as “the god of this world”. In spite of God’s overall sovereignty he is said to have power in this realm giving the “kingdoms of this world” to who he may. (God gave dominion to man and through man’s choices Satan took control to a large extent.) This is an interesting viewpoint depicting Christians as God’s 5th columnists working to bring down Satan’s power explaining why evil runs rampant in the earth unless restrained by good.
Another little known Genesis Bible history is that the angels who followed Satan had sex with the women of the earth and that their children were giants of a vicious and diabolical nature. This could explain a frequent question of why in ancient history God asked his people to slaughter whole populations even women and children (lest the DNA be further corrupted). There are some interesting books on this due in part to the many assertions, photos etc. of giant human skeletons being unearthed. It’s not my intention to get into that here as I’m not at all sure about these assertions but it’s an interesting read.
Whatever you believe I hope this has given some new background to your Halloween celebrations. Personally I shall breathe a sigh of relief when it’s over and I can look forward to Christmas when we celebrate the forces of good.
