Come with me today and enjoy our frosty school trip (I took these on the way back home). It was so lovely we kept stopping to look.
This part of the lakes has a strange green light some mornings like today
Today the lakeside gleams with frost, as if in rivalry it decorates the ground.
Ice frosts the most humble plants with sparkles.
Stained glass ice mosaics line the banks.
Grass and leaves weave their sculptural decor.
So nature also celebrates the season.
I glance at silvered leaves, blades of grass transformed from placid domesticity to jeweled art forms. Beauty lingers before my eyes as I pause on my bike ride home, taking off gloves to blow feeling back into numbed fingers.
Winter has come in its beauty and pain.
